SOF Connect – the operator of Vasil Levski Sofia Airport
SOF Connect AD is the licensed operator of the largest international airport in Bulgaria – Vasil Levski Sofia Airport.
From April 2021, the company is appointed for a concessionaire of the Vasil Levski Sofia Airport. SOF Connect is the concessionaire of Vasil Levski-Sofia Airport for the next 35 years with an assigned concession for the construction of the object “Sofia Civil Airport for Public Use” – public state property. The Global Infrastructure Fund Meridiam owns 100% of the company’s capital. During the concession period, SOF Connect envisages investments of approximately BGN 1.2 billion for the development and modernization of the Sofia airport, which will contribute to the economic prosperity of the region, attracting more tourists and making Bulgaria a preferred destination.
The investment strategy of SOF Connect envisages the transformation of the capital’s airport into a five-star regional airport and the construction of a new passenger terminal – Terminal 3 with adjacent service infrastructure, a new transport hub and a change of service infrastructure of the Sofia Airport Complex, located on the territory of Sofia Municipality. Improving the passenger experience, expanding Bulgaria’s aviation connectivity with Europe and the world, the application of green energy, a clean environment and sustainable development are among the main priorities in the modernization strategy of Vasil Levski Airport – Sofia, for the achievement of which priorities the company is carrying out a number of construction and renovation activities.
As an active participant in many relations in the construction process, SOF Connect wishes to achieve the following objectives: identification and transparency of the activities of the persons performing construction; improvement of the management of construction activities, increase of the responsibility of the builder for achieving the essential requirements for the construction and the quality of the execution of the construction; protection of the interests of the users of construction services.
SOF Connect is focused on becoming a leader and role model in the sustainable development of the aviation industry. The company is implementing leading practices in areas such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the airport’s direct operations by decarbonizing its fleet and improving the energy efficiency of facilities; sourcing energy and self-generating electricity from renewable sources and providing sustainable fuel for both ground vehicles and aircraft; working with partners and suppliers to promote and enforce sustainable and competitive solutions from companies in the broader ecosystem; reducing waste and increasing recycling, as well as optimising water use.
Reducing its environmental impact is among the priorities in Vasil Levski Sofia Airport’s decarbonisation plan, through which it is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2036.
